THE PLANET WHERE IT RAINS GLASS
Did you know there’s a planet where it probably rains glass?
The exoplanet HD 189733 b, located about 64 light-years from Earth, has such an extreme atmosphere that scientists believe it contains silicate particles, similar to the components of glass. Its winds can reach speeds of about 8,700 km/h (5,400 mph), and temperatures exceed 900°C (1,650°F).
The most impressive part is that, due to those winds and temperatures, the glass could condense and fall as a kind of horizontal glass rain at enormous speeds.
And the curious thing is that, although it looks like a completely blue and beautiful world, its surface would be an absolutely deadly place.
